Goodies

I went to J-town today and picked up some goodies for my dollhouse.

Hello Kitty Re-ment

 Dim Sum anyone?

 Hello...Kitty...hehe

I tried my hand at making some of my own favorite books. "Memoirs of a Geisha" and "The Time Traveler's Wife" in mini! It was really easy. I just found the book jackets, resized them, printed, cut, pasted onto a piece of poster board.

This bed was on sale at the dollhouse store for $14 so I bought it. I made the bedding myself today. Since I don't sew, everything is stuck together with this fabric tape that you iron together and it seams it for you. Pretty crafty eh?

I added some wall art and other knick knacks to Roo's Room and therefore had to photograph it again. His little backpack is so cute!

I just need to find a "Roo" doll now! Too bad I can't find any Asian dollhouse dolls... racists. ;)

Roo's Room!

I originally was going to do this the "right" way and finish sanding and gutting the whole house and the exterior before I started working on each room... but again with the no patience...

I went to the dollhouse store for the first time today. It was a good 35-40 minute drive but totally worth it. I spent too much money but figured I'll sacrifice that new bag I wanted for my hobby. The things you do. *shakes head*

So after scoring all this neat stuff at the dollhouse store and then Marukai because it was close, I HAD to set up Roo's room.

Before...

...After- ROO'S ROOM!!

I made the bedding myself (as well as the bunk beds). I love the dinosaur pillows!
The wallpaper is temporary. I just cut out scrapbook paper to fit the room.
The floor is tacky paper from Marukai.

I splurged on these Harry Potter mini series at the dollhouse store. But it was worth it!! I mean, I HAD to have Harry Potter!!!! The Angry Birds pig was a keychain. The trucks are those Japanese erasers (found at Marukai), the storage bins I made out of paper, and the monkey, sword, and fools gold I borrowed from Roo's actual toy box.

I added the bowling set for this pic. Also a Japanese eraser.
The easel and canvas are from Swain's.

I made the hanging bubble chair and the rug :)
AHHHHH!!! I am just loving it so much.

No Patience

That's right. I have none.

I HAD to put the furniture I have made so far into a very unfinished room in my dollhouse. Just to see if it fit! And how it looked! And I got too excited and needed to place them in a space!

This shall be "Roo's Room." Please ignore the scrape-ity floors and walls, etc...

I made everything you see here- except the stools for the Kaleidoscope Table, which are drawer pulls from Ikea.

Kaleidoscope Table

I made this table from an awesomely cheap find at the local hardware store. The top goes to a toothbrush holder and I got 4 for $5 at the clearance table! I put the colored see-through plastic on the underside and some table legs, and voila! My kaleidoscope table! I have named it such, after the infamous Kaleidoscope House.

My First (Adult) Dollhouse

I found such a sweet deal on Craigslist!

$50.00 for a huge 3 story dollhouse. It's a fixer upper, but structurally sound, already wired for electricity (though I'm now thinking I might want to redo that too...) and gorgeous. My wonderful boyfriend served as bodyguard on the potentially dangerous dollhouse mission. But the sellers turned out to be very nice. Thank goodness. AND IT WAS EVEN BETTER IN PERSON THAN IT WAS IN THE PICTURES!!!!!!!

Here it is, in it's rough state

The grotesque kitchen

That window makes this room look so ghetto NYC circa 1960.

Poor curtain.

I think they used velvet fabric for the "wall-to-wall carpeting." It is proving to be extremely difficult to get off.

I love the little round window! That's a keeper!

From the front. I am trying to decide whether or not I'm going to scrape off all this siding, because some of it is broken... and the uglified trim.

The scraping has begun
Gutting the dollhouse is hard work. And very dusty. And I think there was cat hair trapped under the rug. I had to take a Benadryl because of my intense allergies and subsequently got so drowsy I had to get to bed! lol

It's gonna be A LOT of work.

Itty Bitty Bunks

Finally! A successful project! I made little bunk beds for Roo's dollhouse room.

A work in progress. I really wish I had an art studio! All I have is a desk sized table top.

The modern bunk bed
These bitty bunks are made out of wood and are my own original design. I'm very pleased with them. Now all they need are mattresses, pillows, and linens!

It's a Small World After All

hi!

Welcome to my blog! The creation of this blog is to provide an outlet for my new obsession with dollhouses and their tiny trappings. Since JB and Roo recently ganged up on me and forbid me from talking about any and all things small for an entire night, they have supported me in the making of this new blog to alleviate my constant need to tell them about my teeny ideas.

So far, I have been successful at building and upholstering a wee chair. So far, this is really all I've been successful at. I tried to build a kitchen set because the ones for sale would bankrupt me, (sadly, minis have rather large price tags) but FAILED miserably.
I have sketched out plans for my second kitchen set attempt, but my spirits are low and my ego fragile and I'm really not sure it's going to work out.

My first chair I made in a 1:12 scale... or so I thought... until I went to Swain's to pick of craft supplies and stuck my chair in a sample Melissa and Doug dollhouse and it looked way too big for the house. I know it's not a great idea to build furniture before I get the actual dollhouse but I just can't help myself!

This is that chair:

Hello wee chair and wee pillow!

I've been reading lots of other blogs on miniatures and have been so impressed with their creativity and skills at all things small.

Originally I began this blog on Xanga, where I had been a loyal blogger in the past, but all the blogs I read on minis are on blogspot and this interface is much easier for me to use.

More to come!
